According to directive 2009/104/EC of the European Parliament: In order to ensure that health and safety conditions are maintained and that deterioration liable to result in dangerous situations can be detected and remedied in good time, the employer shall ensure that work equipment exposed to conditions causing such deterioration is subject to periodic inspections and, where appropriate, testing by competent persons within the meaning of national laws and/or practices.
If the machine is equipped with opto-electronic safety curtains, two-hand control buttons, safety scanners, safety door switches without locking or other safety equipment that do not provide physical enclosure of dangerous areas from the operator or bystanders, it is necessary to measure the stop time of the movable parts. These requirements are described in EN ISO 13855: 2010 - " Safety of machinery -- Positioning of safeguards with respect to the approach speeds of parts of the human body".
INEE Industry Sp. z o.o. performs stop time measurements using a calibrated, specialized device. After the measurements are taken, the customer receives
a detailed report with the test results - run time and minimum safety distance - including expert analysis and safety system recommendations.
Stop time measurement should be performed on an annual basis, but sometimes manufacturers or internal company regulations require more frequent measurements.
